Guo Da Li (Betrothal) is a significant event in the Chinese wedding culture where the groom presents the wedding gifts to the bride’s family to show his sincerity in marrying their daughter. Traditionally, this formality would be done on an auspicious date 2-3 weeks before the actual day. Auspicious food items such as oranges, pastries, grains, pig leg cans and alcohol will be given to the bride’s family as well. Food items will be given in pairs and the bride’s family will return a portion of it as a blessing and to share it amongst both the families.The Pin Jin will also be given to the bride’s parent during Guo Da Li and the amount is usually pre-discussed and agreed upon by both sides.
